External wireless cards are virtually non-existent these days since it is built-in to nearly every electronic device we use. I can hardly count all of the times I almost snapped my wireless card off of my laptop since it protruded so much out the side. :)

Apple appears to have selected the name iBook for its forthcoming consumer and education-oriented notebook Mac, better known by its codename, P1. The name 'iBook' has been assigned to the company as a trademark and follows naturally from the name 'iMac'. An earlier, much-fancied name was 'WebMate', given the machine's anticipated role as a portable Internet access system -- iBook retains that idea, but also ties the machine into the professional PowerBook line.

The iBook's clamshell design is completely free of latches, doors, or flaps(not even a close latch), so there is nothing to jam, snap or break off. Equally brilliant was the addition of a flip-up carrying handle that's integrated right into the case design, so it's easy to pick the iBook up and tote it around.

lf the iMac was designed for browsing the Web at home, then the iBook was created to access the lnternet on the go. The original model was a rugged clamshell design with a six-hour Lithium lon battery and a new wireless technology Apple dubbed as AirPort. l still remember the image of Steve Jobs passing an internet-connected iBook through a hula-hoop to demonstrate there were no wires.
