All in all, the keynote audience was very pleased with the iBook except for two points: pricing and availability. At $1599, $400 more than the iMac, I think the iBook is reasonably priced for a consumer portable, but more than people had hoped for. TFT displays and six-hour batteries don’t come cheap, after all. I’m sure Apple is just as disappointed as we are that the iBook won’t be available to start the school year, but if they coulda done it, they woulda.

You expect to see lipstick, rouge, and a tray of eye shadow inside when you open it up. You don't expect to see a 12-inch LCD; you expect to see a 12-inch mirror. No male in his right mind will be seen in public with this notebook

There is a tendency for designers to understand the use of a product soley in terms of what happens between its being switched on and off. Convinced that carrying the product also defined an important aspect of its use, we developed the flip-up handle and robust polycarbonate shells co-moulded with rubber.
