The iBook is undoubtedly rugged, functional, powerful and fun, and it may even be beautiful. Having to pay an extra £350 for sufficient RAM and disk space to edit a modest home video hurts a little, though, and the lack of screen space is irritating. But in every other respect, the iBook has come of age.

A variety of games were tested on the iBook, from the original Quake to Unreal. With proper configuration these games will run with acceptable performance, but be prepared to make sacrifices in terms of video quality and resolutions. The iBook really shines playing titles that don't require 3D hardware such as Starcraft, Total Annihilation, and Spaceward Ho!

We heartily agree with Laptop's assessment of the absolute worst notebook design, the Apple iBook from 1999 that most of us thought looked exactly like a toilet seat in a cheap motel. Sure, it was available in all kinds of gorgeous colors, but besides being underpowered, its design was widely considered to be a joke.
