Diablo I was officially released for the Mac in 1998. This action role-playing game from Blizzard Entertainment ran natively on PowerPC-based computers at the time. The story takes place in the world of Sanctuary—specifically in the village of Tristram and within a dungeon located beneath the village church. Throughout the game, the player receives assistance from the village inhabitants, who offer trade, equipment repairs, and information. Inside the dungeon, the player battles monsters and discovers a wide variety of items—such as weapons and pieces of armor—that provide support through their unique attributes. The player can also find spellbooks in libraries, granting access to new or improved spells.
