On the MacCentral news site, the opinion divide is already evident in posts with subject lines like "iBook YES!!!," "iBook is a disappointment" and "What is it with all the naysayers?" Critics focus on the weight, 6.7 pounds, and the 32mb RAM, while fans rave about the AirPort, the "nifty technology" that makes the iBook wireless.

Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger is the last version that can be installed on Clamshell G3 iBooks with a firewire port, because OSX 10.5 Leopard doesn't support the G3 Processor.
Ony the Retail Version of Tiger on a black DVD is suited for your iBook, grey install DVD are connected to other Aplle hardware products and will not run on your iBook.

Minimum system requirements for Mac OS X v10.4:
* A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
* Built-in FireWire port
* At least 256 MB of RAM
* At least 3 GB of free disk space

The retail version of OSX Tiger came on one DVD, which is of no use for older G3 Computers which only have a built-in CD drive.
For a limited time, Apple offered to exchange the DVD for a six CD set.
This version is very helpful for iBook users with a built-in CD-ROM which was the standard drive for the 366Mhz firewire models in indigo, keylime and garphite.

Only four CD of this set are necessary for the Tiger installation, two contain the developer tools.
