Stronghold, released in 2001 by Firefly Studios, is the first installment in the medieval real-time strategy series of the same name. Subsequent versions were released exclusively for PC and were no longer ported to Mac by Macsoft. Consequently, used copies are quite rare and command relatively high prices.

The player assumes the role of a commander tasked with reclaiming various counties—currently held by rival dukes—over the course of a 21-mission campaign. The initial objective is to build a thriving economic settlement around one's own keep, while simultaneously defending it and developing new technologies.

System requirements: G3/350 processor or faster, Mac OS 8.6 or later (also compatible with OS X), a Rage 128 or better graphics card, 128 MB of RAM, and 750 MB of free disk space.
