Playing Playstation 1 Games

The Connectix Virtual Game Station was a great opportunity to expand the range of games, which was meager compared to the Windows platform. With this software (costs around 50 euros) you could play most Playstation 1 games on any G3 iMac, Powerbook or iBook smoothly without loss of quality. There were different versions for PAL and NTSC games.
Joysticks and gamepads could also be used, only force feedback controllers and pistols were not supported.
After Sony tried in vain to prevent Connectix from selling the software, the group quickly bought the small company and took the product off the market. The Virtual Game Station is now sold on platforms like Ebay. There is an archived website (long loading time) with compatibility list of playable Playstation games
Playing Games on the iBook

Playing games on the iBook is one of the nicest things. In 1999-2001, many Mac games for Mac OS9 came out and run well and smoothly on iBook. An example is the Tomb-Raider series, which can be had cheaply up to Tomb Raider I-IV and Tomb Raider-the chronicle used and mostly also start under OSX.
Strategy classics like Age of Empires 2 were also ported to the Mac and are still exciting to play today.

The clamshell Ibook was delivered with MAC OS8.6 when it was introduced in 1999, and the expandable main memory was 32 MB at the time. Later clamshells from 2000 onwards came with OS9.
In principle, OSX 10.3 (Panther) can be installed on all iBooks with a 128 MB memory expansion, but a 256 MB memory expansion is recommended.
The last Clamshell Ibook series with Firewire port even runs with OSX 10.4 (Tiger)
With the help of the Xpostfacto shareware program, OSX 10.4 can be installed on an iBook without a FireWire port.
As a workaround, you can also install a hard drive that already has an installed OSX Tiger on it.
If you don't have much money to invest in your clamshell Ibook with a 3 GB or 6 GB hard drive, it's best to stay with OS9.
iLife 04 install

Normally, iLife cannot be installed on the clamshell iBooks because the integrated iMovie
requires a 1024 screen resolution. The installation aborts.
However, I was recently able to install some iLife 04 components ( iphoto, iDVD, Garageband ) on my 366 clamshell by selecting the Install package on the DVD and selecting "Show original" in the Finder. Now the install packages of the individual components are listed.
iphoto grumbles when you start it for the first time that it prefers a 1024 resolution, but it works. You can even work with GarageBand, although the hardware requirements are higher, you could connect and play a keyboard, and you could also run simple demo songs for the G3.
