iClam: XGA Clamshell on Ebay
- Details
- Parent Category: FAQ
The Ebay USA vendor odds-n-ends4you sells maxed out Clamshell iBooks with a 1024x768 display panel - starting bid around 500 US$, but only for buyers in the USA and Canada. Apparently he uses no OpenFirmware Hack and DVD Playback works as to be seen on Youtube. The Clamshell Modification Project published a new method using the terminal application to achieve the correct communication with a XGA Display panel, but there are no informations if the DVD playback problem is solved or not.

The major drawback of the Clamshell iBook is the limitation of the 800x600 screen specially in OSX, which was build for larger screens. On the iBook modification project page you can find instructions how to connect a 1024x768 screen to your Clamshell. There are still some limitations concerning DVD playback.
The discussion started at macnnforums in december 2006, but now the thread was closed because the project moved.

iBook harddisk swap quick and dirty
- Details
- Parent Category: FAQ
There is a much more easy way to put a new harddisk in your iBook Clamshell - only 19 screws which takes only 8 min 17 seconds (without time to re-assemble)
The trick is to remove the screws in the region where the HD is located and bend the EMI shield in order to fish the HD out.
